Marinescu on pole for F2 race two

Mihai Marinescu claimed his second pole of the season in qualifying for Sunday afternoon’s second Formula 2 race at Brands Hatch.

The Romanian set his best lap with around five minutes left in the 30-minute session and despite warm, sunny conditions, none of his rivals were able to better his time as they had already used their five allotted qualifying boosts.

Second went to Christopher Zanella, who set his time just after the mid-way point in the session, at the time going half a second quicker than the rest. Markus Pommer will start third, with Dino Zamparelli the top Briton in fourth. Saturday’s race winner Kevin Mirocha qualified alongside him in fifth.

Matheo Tuscher had provisional pole early in the session, but used his boost up too soon and dropped to seventh, while race one poleman and championship leader Luciano Bacheta was also a pole contender early on, but failed to improve near the end and will start from a disappointing eighth.
