C/D: You’re on your way to a vintage race at Lime Rock, where some of your old cars will be competing. Are you surprised that vintage racing has become so popular?

SM: I’m glad to see the cars out there— they are worth so much more money and are in so much better condition now than when they were new. A Maserati when it came out of the factory was in nowhere near as good a condition as it is after someone has spent years restoring it.
