Sebastien Ogier has downplayed suggestions that he will start the 2013 WRC season as one of the favourites for the title.
Ogier will lead Volkswagen’s assault on the WRC in the German car maker’s first full season with the Polo R WRC.
Following Sebastian Loeb’s semi-retirement form the sport, Ogier has been tipped as one of main challengers for the crown, but the VW driver believes it will still be too early for his team to be fighting for the title.
“A lot of people put this pressure on me, but to be honest I think it will not be easy next year,” said Ogier when asked about him being favourite for next year.
“It will be the first year with a Volkswagen Polo and maybe we will discover some problems.
“Hopefully not, and I’m sure in the future we will have a strong team and we will get a lot of victories, but right now it’s not easy to say if it will happen soon.”
Ogier, a seven-time rally winner in the WRC, also reckons the sport may be entering a new, positive era thanks to the arrival of new manufacturers.
“At the moment we have some new manufacturers coming like Volkswagen and Hyundai and maybe Toyota,” he said.
“I’m sure with more manufacturers and more drivers we would have an even bigger show,” he said.
