Former Junior World Rally Championship frontrunner Hans Weijs Jr will get his World Rally Car break in Nasser Al-Attiyah’s regular Citroen in the WRC season finale in Spain next month.
Weijs finished second to Aaron Burkart in the final season of Junior WRC in 2010, before it was replaced by the WRC Academy.
The Dutchman was unable to get a WRC opportunity as a result however, and has spent this season competing in South Africa.
But he will now get a chance to drive the Citroen DS3 WRC campaigned by Al-Attiyah for most of the season.
Al-Attiyah decided against contesting the final two WRC rounds to focus on his Dakar Rally preparations, although he will compete in the Intercontinental Rally Challenge closer in Cyprus next month.
Citroen Junior driver Thierry Neuville ran in Qatar colours in Italy last weekend in Al-Attiyah’s place.
