Recent news broke that Bellator Bantamweight Champion Eduardo Dantas had pulled out of his November 2 title defense against former teammate Marcos Galvao at Bellator 79, prompting Nova Uniao’s head coach Andre Pederneiras to release a statement via MMA Junkie.
It would seem the problem stemmed from an incident in training. After a sparring session left “Dudu” dizzy and nauseous, the fighter was taken to see a doctor when the dizziness persisted. Although neurological exams turned out fine, the former champion was told to abstain from any contact for a month for precautionary reasons. “He can train in jiu-jitsu and wrestling, but he can’t [take] a punch or kick to his head,” said Pederneiras.”This week I brought him back to the doctor and he told us that in February he can fight without any problem,” Pederneiras concluded.
Dantas (14-3) has held the bantamweight title since defeating Zach Makovsky in April. Although undefeated in the Bellator cage, the Brazilian suffered a knockout loss at the hands of Tyson nam in August, snapping a seven-fight win-streak.
