Being viewed as the top fighter at a particular weight and making history by becoming the first champion in a newly-formed division might be enough for some people but then again Demetrious Johnson is far from average. Johnson won the UFC’s freshly-minted flyweight belt last month by beating Joseph Benavidez, though the 26-year old has no interest in resting on his laurels and is instead determined to make a statement by cleaning the class out starting with John Dodson at some point in the immediate future.
“I’m not satisfied. I always want to be better and improve. We made history on September 22, 2012, and that one’s in the books. Now it’s time to build a legacy,” said Johnson in an interview with the UFC where he said his plan was to “keep hunting these guys down and keep putting on great performances against the top athletes in the world.”
“And I might never be satisfied, but we’ll find out,” he added. “I’m the hunter and I’m chasing after those guys. I was looking at the UFC roster and I saw that there were fourteen (flyweights). I got two down; I’ve got eleven to go.”

In addition to Benavidez, Johnson beat highly-touted 125er Ian McCall in June to earn his spot in the title-fight. “Mighty Mouse” holds an overall record of 16-2-1 including past wins over the likes of Norifumi “Kid” Yamamoto and Miguel Torres.
