Prost could test Renault’s 2014 engine

Alain ProstAlain Prost has hinted that he could give Renault’s new 2014 engine an on-track test in the next two months.

The four-time world champion drove a contemporary Formula 1 car for the first time since 1996 last weekend, where he performed demonstration runs in the 2010 Red Bull RB6 and Renault R30 at the Paul Ricard World Series by Renault meeting.

Prost said that he enjoyed the chance to experience a contemporary F1 car, and he revealed that his work as a Renault ambassador means he is heavily involved in the development of the manufacturer’s 2014 engine.

“Driving a modern Formula 1 car is very helpful,” said the 57-year-old. “And maybe I have another chance to do it with the new engine in the next two months. That would be another good experience.

“I am already thinking about the new technology coming in Formula 1 with the new engines. I am going to work very hard with Renault on that; it is our new target.”

Prost rejoined the Renault fold earlier this year when he took up his ambassadorial role. He previously raced for the French firm’s F1 team from 1981-1983, and won his fourth world championship with a Renault engine driving for Williams.
