Michael Bisping: “I was doing this when Chris Weidman was probably getting bullied out of his lunch money in school.”

UFC middleweight Michael Bisping has no problem with the notion of 185-pound peer Chris Weidman’s status as a tough competitor with a ton of promise. However, the same cannot be said when it comes to Weidman being the division’s top contender.

In Bisping’s estimation he’s done enough over the past few years to earn a title-shot including his recent win over Brian Stann. And, if the UFC isn’t willing to acknowledge his status as the chief challenger to Anderson Silva’s crown, Bisping’s open to fighting Weidman to prove it.

“I was doing this when Chris Weidman was probably getting bullied out of his lunch money in school,” said Bisping in an interview with Inside MMA. “He’s undefeated, but he’s only had nine fights. Listen, the guy’s an incredible talent, and he’s a great prospect, but he’s still young in his career. Weidman’s got the youth and potential and all the tools to have a great career.”

“I’ve got nothing against Chris Weidman,” he continued. “It certainly seems that I do, because of I’ve been talking a lot of trash about him. I’m just trying to sell myself. I’m trying to provide for myself, and Chris Weidman’s a competitor against me. I wish him all the best. But, I think I deserve it, and my time’s now. If I’ve gotta fight Chris Weidman in the meantime? So be it.”

“The Count” Breaks Down the Middleweight Division

Bisping was not listed on the medical report from UFC 152 where he fought last weekend. As such, he is technically available to fight again in the coming months. Meanwhile, Weidman is scheduled for a bout with Tim Boetsch on December 29 at UFC 155.
