Ian McCall: "I'm still kind of pissed at the fact that I lost."

Flyweight Ian McCall came into the UFC as the top 125er in MMA but quickly lost his standing after a hard-fought Draw and decision loss to Demetrious Johnson in back-to-back meetings. McCall is hungry to re-establish himself in the division and get another crack at Johnson, now the champion, but not just because he wants to avenge a stumble or strap gold around his waist.

“I’m still kind of pissed off at the fact that I lost, obviously,” stated McCall in an interview with MMA Heat before putting a positive spin on things. “But, I think I’m only two or three wins away from getting a title-shot,”

Elaborating on the topic of another go at Johnson, McCall made it seem as though the flyweight belt was only a secondary factor in his quest to meet “Mighty Mouse” a third time. Rather, the 28-year old wants a chance to redeem himself for a poor performance brought on by a lack of preparation.

“Speed is a big thing. With me, the second time I came in too heavy, I mean I cut 18.8 pounds in the last like 20 hours. We weighed in at three or four o’clock and by 10:00 I was 150.5,” admitted McCall. “So it was my own fault, I didn’t diet right. I think I just didn’t take it seriously enough, which for some reason I don’t know why, I finally get to the UFC and I don’t take it serious, I don’t know. I would just go back to like I fought him the first time and not… I was thinking too much and I don’t know, I didn’t fight like I should have.”

McCall isn’t looking to waste time as far as getting back on the winning track, calling for a fight before the end of 2012. However, according to the 11-3-1 competitor the UFC has told him January or February are more likely options.
