One of the individuals directly affected by the UFC’s recent decision to hand Chael Sonnen a shot at Jon Jones’ championship was Forrest Griffin. The original Ultimate Fighter winner was scheduled to face Sonnen in December at UFC 155 in what would have been the former middleweight’s first match-up in the UFC at light heavyweight since 2005.
Griffin was asked for his opinion on the development in an interview with UFC Tonight where, according to the show, he wasn’t overly critical of the change in his schedule and even delivered some of his trademark humor to help assess the situation.
“I’m actually happy that I’m not fighting him now because watching his fights was so boring and tedious,” said Griffin in a conversation with UFC reporter Ariel Helwani, also revealing he didn’t fault Sonnen considering the opportunity at hand. “I don’t blame Chael for taking this fight. Why work your way to the top if you can talk your way to the top?”
Sonnen Offers Up Insight on his Approach to Fighting Jones
With Sonnen off the table it is believed Griffin will receive a new opponent for his December 29 tilt. No specific names have been floated around at this point.
