Bolivia will host the Dakar Rally for the first time after being included alongside Argentina and Chile on the calendar of next year’s race.
The 2014 edition, the 35th running of the event and the sixth since its move to South America, will start in Rosario, Argentina, before moving through Bolivia and then finishing in Valparaiso, Chile.
The race will run from January 5-18, with a rest day in Salta, Argentina, on January 11.
Peru, which hosted the start of last year’s race, won by Stephane Peterhansel and X-Raid, will not host a stage in 2014.
Alongside the arrival of Bolivia, the 28th country to host the Dakar, next year’s route will also incorporate more marathon stages and shorter road liaison sections.
Speaking at the Paris unveiling of the 2014 route, rally director Etienne Lavigne said last year’s race received a combined TV audience of more than one billion viewers.
