Rain, problems spoil Sepang test

Heavy rain and reliability problems made day two of the MotoGP CRT teams’ exclusive test at Sepang a virtual non-event on Monday.

The CRT squads were given two additional days of testing to work with the new spec ECU before the full 2013 field takes to the track for three days from Tuesday.

But the six riders entered managed just 58 laps between them on day two, which was at least an improvement over day one’s tally of 41.

Ioda’s Danilo Petrucci set the fastest time of the day with a 2m23.456s, but completed just four laps, before handing over to his rookie team-mate Lukas Pesek.

The squad also had some electrical glitches, as did Avintia and Forward, the other two teams in action.

All riders present did at least manage a handful of laps in the end, except Avintia’s Hiroshi Aoyama. The Japanese rider decided not to risk his injured wrist in the wet weather.
