The HVM Status GP LMP2 squad has confirmed its graduation to the World Endurance Championship in 2013.
The Anglo-Irish Status team and US-based HVM Racing have announced that they have entered a solo Lola B12/80 in the full WEC in the wake of their link-up last month.
GP3 squad Status expanded into sportscars last season to contest the European Le Mans Series and the Le Mans 24 Hours, while this is the first time that former Champ Car and IndyCar team HVM has been involved in endurance racing.
Status commercial director Tim Scott said: “The background of both Status and HVM is in major international championships, so we were united in our wish to compete at the highest level available, with the Le Mans 24 Hours as a central part of our programme.”
HVM boss Keith Wiggins explained that the team had agreed deals with two drivers for the eight-race WEC, including its silver-rated or amateur driver.
“We are finalising contracts with two drivers and looking for one more and very optimistic about the programme we are putting together for 2013,” he said.
He said he expected a step-up in competitiveness of the Lola B12/60 now that the Multimatic Motorsport organisation had resumed development on the chassis.
HVM Status is expected to continue with the BMW-based Judd HK engine, which is being enlarged in capacity from 3.6 to four litres for 2013.
