Luca Filippi has been recruited by Auto GP organiser Coloni to join Adrian Quaife-Hobbs in undertaking the initial tests of the series’ new-for-2013 car.
The 27-year-old Italian has won GP2 races for Coloni’s racing team for the past two seasons, will join Auto GP champion Quaife-Hobbs at Barcelona on December 6, when the car has its maiden run.
The 2013 machine remains based on the current Lola-Zytek B05/52, but features revised front and rear aerodynamics and updated sidepods, with the aim being to improve lap times by around 1.5 seconds.
“The new car is ready at our headquarters and it will line-up alongside the others so we will have a direct term of comparison,” series chief Enzo Coloni said.
“We’re going to test a lot of new solutions from a technical standpoint and also many different tyre compounds.
“Two drivers were selected for the job: 2012 champion Adrian Quaife-Hobbs, who will give us a valuable starting feedback, and Luca Filippi, who will provide us with his sensibility and experience in order to guide us through the development stage”.
Coloni said that next year’s calendar would include eight rounds, with the dates and venues to be announced within the next month.
