Infiniti to Become Title Sponsor of Red Bull Racing Formula 1 Team

The Red Bull Formula 1 team has carried Infiniti’s name and logo since the start of the 2011 season. Over this past weekend at 2012′s final round in Brazil, the pair announced that their relationship would extend further. From 2013, Red Bull Racing will be known as Infiniti Red Bull Racing. In addition to the title sponsorship, Infiniti will become the technical partner of the team—although the automaker’s parent company, Renault, will continue to serve as engine supplier for the team.



As a part of the agreement between Infiniti and RBR, the two will collaborate on future projects, with Red Bull chief technical officer Adrian Newey calling specific attention t0 energy-recovery systems. (We were told hybrid and battery tech would be among the first projects the two would work on at this year’s U.S. Grand Prix in Austin, Texas.) It’s understood that Red Bull owner Dietrich Mateschitz has been interested in finding a title sponsor for his team for the better part of three seasons. What’s unclear is how the relationship between Red Bull and Infiniti will take shape in the car’s livery—we’re not sure how the Japanese luxury brand’s factory color of purple will fit in with the Austrian energy drink’s current scheme.
