Tim Kennedy clashing with Trevor Smith at Strikeforce show in November

A replacement still hasn’t been named to fight Daniel Cormier after Frank Mir was injured and pulled out of their upcoming fight, but Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker recently took to Twitter to announce another tilt that has been added to the card, as middleweights Tim Kennedy (14-4) and Trevor Smith (10-2) will square off on the November 3 lineup.

Kennedy will be looking to rebound after losing his middleweight title-shot to Luke Rockhold in July. Prior to that, Kennedy had gone 6-1 in Strikeforce with his only loss coming to former champion Ronaldo Souza. With a dominant performance, Kennedy could position himself at the top of the division considering the organization’s lack of contenders.

Kennedy Talks Frustration with Inactivity

Smith lost his last Strikeforce fight, but he picked up a first round win over Alexandre Moreno in June.  Smith, regarded as a submission specialist, has nine tap-outs to his credit in ten total wins. If he can pull off a submission win against Kennedy he will only be the second guy to finish him in his career, and there’s no doubt a decisive win in November could put him a fight or two away from the a title shot of his own.

Kennedy and Smith will likely play a supporting role on the card as Strikeforce continues to scramble to find a replacement for Mir. The November show will also feature a title-fight between 185-pound champ Rockhold and unbeaten Lorenz Larkin.
