WWE fans concerned about rumors pertaining to former UFC heavyweight champ Brock Lesnar abandoning professional wrestling for a return to the ring were able to breathe a sigh of relief today, as UFC President Dana White has revealed the company is not currently looking to book Lesnar in a future bout. Speculation on the matter began last week after Lesnar’s name was linked to a possible meeting with legendary competitor Fedor Emelianenko. Flames were then fanned when White went online to ask fans if they were interested in seeing the fight.
However, according to White, the question was just a playful inquiry rather than anything with substance behind it.
“The crazy thing is everyone is asking me to make this fight when you know Fedor is retired. The guy retired,” explained White. “I couldn’t get him when he was fighting. Now I’m such good terms I’m going to pull out of retirement?”
Emelianenko hung up his gloves this year at the age of 35 after a 34-4 run in MMA. However, none of his success took place under the UFC’s banner with most of his wins coming in Japan. The UFC attempted to court him on numerous occasions but could never work out the specifics due largely to Emelianko’s management demanding special considerations such as cross-promotion with the M-1 Global brand.
White Discusses Recent Meeting with Lesnar
With White shooting down the notion of Lesnar-Emelianenko it seems as though the former WWE Champion will stick with scripted combat. He is expected to have a handful of WWE appearances still scheduled leading up to Wrestlemania despite a recent storyline saying he’d quit after defeating Triple H.
