Cub Swanson has sights set on rematch with Jose Aldo

One of the most memorable moments in UFC featherweight Jose Aldo‘s impressive career involved a man who created his own unique highlight at UFC 152, Cub Swanson. The fierce 145ers faced off on June 7, 2009 at WEC 41, though for less than ten seconds as fate would have it after Aldo landed a beautiful flying knee that sent Swanson to the canvas.

Swanson has recently emerged as one of the fighters to keep an eye on at 145 pounds with strike-based stoppages in each of his last three tilts including a fantastic knockout of Charles Oliveira last night. The 28-year old brawler was asked about the possibility of a second showdown with Aldo at the post-event press conference where he expressed extreme openness to the idea.

“I’d love that fight,” Swanson answered enthusiastically. “It hurt to lose like that (in the first bout), just because I felt like the fans were robbed of that fight and I’ll do whatever it takes to get back there.”

Though there is currently a line of competitors waiting for a shot at Aldo including Chan Sung Jung and Frankie Edgar, UFC President Dana White definitely showed interest in the prospect of Swanson scrapping with Aldo at some point based on what he’d shown in Toronto.

“He looked phenomenal tonight,” said White. “In his last fight, he looked amazing. He was awesome tonight; he had one of the craziest knockouts I’ve ever seen. I’m happy for him man. He’s on his way.”
