Skoda closes on full ERC title bid

Jan Kopecky ERC 2013Skoda has edged closer to committing to a fully-fledged European Rally Championship title bid by entering Jan Kopecky to take on Robert Kubica in the Azores Rally.

Kopecky leads the ERC standings after winning two of the three rallies held so far, but Skoda has held back from launching a full programme in the revitalised series, only confirming its plans on a round-by-round basis.

The Czech has had now the April 25-27 Azores event added to his calendar. Under ERC rules, drivers count eight scores from the 13-round season; their best four from the first six and last seven events respectively.

Kopecky is currently 18 points clear of Craig Breen in the standings.

Breen and Kubica will again be Skoda’s main opposition in the Azores.

Kubica dominated on his ERC debut in the Canary Islands last month before crashing out.
