Vautier takes Trois-Rivieres pole

Tristan Vautier, Schmidt, Trois-Rivieres 2012Tristan Vautier claimed his fourth pole position of the season for Indy Lights’ standalone round in Trois-Rivieres.

The series’ visit to the famous Canadian street circuit is its only date away from the IndyCar Series in the calendar. An IndyCar-style knockout qualifying was introduced for the event, though with only 11 cars in the field, it effectively amounted to eliminating five in round one before a six-car pole shootout.

Sam Schmidt Motorsports driver Vautier came out on top in that session by just 0.0611 seconds over Andretti Autosport’s Carlos Munoz.

Team Moore Racing’s Gustavo Yacaman pushed points leader Esteban Guerrieri down to fourth, although Guerrieri’s main title rival Sebastian Saavedra was back in sixth, behind Peter Dempsey.
