Mercedes ‘set for late-season surge’

Nico Rosberg, Mercedes, Korea 2012Nico Rosberg believes Mercedes can target a stronger end to the 2012 Formula 1 campaign now it has made progress with its latest updates.

Following a difficult middle part of the season, the introduction of a raft of developments, including a Coanda-effect exhaust, in Singapore has helped Mercedes move forward.

Rosberg, who lines up ninth on the grid for the Korean Grand Prix, thinks that even more is possible in the final four races of the year.

When asked by AUTOSPORT why Mercedes had progressed so well between Japan and Korea, Rosberg said: “I think the conditions suit us more and the track suits us more, especially sector one. With long straights and hairpins – that is our strongest area.

“So that has helped us. But also we are pushing forward and continuing to bring new bits to the car and that is also where we are making progress.

“The problem is the others are fighting for the world championship, so they are also pushing hard and making progress.

“But we will get there – towards the end of the season we should get a bit closer hopefully.”
